Artist's Comments

This may look familiar yet different at the same time.

There's a horrid story behind the change in this piece, but I'll just lie to appease your curiousity and say that I was unsatisfied with the wings of the original.

I'm very much pleased with how the new one came out. I had more fun with the bandages and studied Malik's back throughly to get the wings right. I have full plans to color this and perhaps might enter it into the Terror Unknown art contest.
[see journal for more details about that fic/pic competition]

For you, marikuchan.

Cool design, and really good job on the hand and foot

Wow..This is so stunning. This picture seems to speak out..Oh she looks so sad.
The wings are cool, how did they look before you fixed them?
I really like the body structure and the facial expresion.
I have to ask, how do you clean it up so good?
:iconxblahx:
Ahh this is so stunning. Man your body structure is so cool. Great work on the facial expression, it like it speaks out...
I have to ask, how do you clean it up so good?

Beautiful. Very. ^____^ The wings and teh forlorn expression. Your art is really amazing. I love the way you did the ribbons and the pretty arch to the wings and how smooth it looks. Gorgeous. :D

Thanks. I was actually worried that they turned out too big.
But I rather like the effect - like a boy being forced to grow up too soon.

Hmmm...
I wonder if I should try the same pictoral effect with Seto.

Well, I'm glad you approve. I should have gone into detail on the theme of the picture. Blah me. I'm lazy.
But thanks.

Ooh...
A double post.

Okay, first off, that's a guy. Malik of Yu-Gi-Oh fame.
The poor kid is 10 and just had his back carved up for a ritual initiation of a clan known as the Gravekeepers - guardian's of the Pharoah's tomb until his return. Thus the bandages.
Part of the design is a symbol known as the Wings of Isis. That is what's erupting from his back.
That should explain the expression on his face.

I didn't really clean it up, though. Sketched it out roughly on paper, inked it, erased the pencil, and scanned it in.
That's it. No special tricks or anything.

But I'm glad you like it.
